The Bakhtiari dam site is located about 50 km to the upstream of the Dez dam and five kilometers upstream of the intersection of the Caesar-Bakhtiari rivers.

Bakhtiari River is one of the two main streams of the Dez River, which originates from the southern Oshtankouh highlands, and is near the Tang-e-5 station to the Caesar River and forms the Dez River.

Reza Zadeh said about the financing of the project. According to the letter of approval issued by the Cabinet of Ministers, the assets of Shahid Rajaee 1 and 2 mosque and Solomon Mosque were allocated to implement the Bakhtiari dam and power plant project.
